Stereolithography (SLA) is a specific method of 3D printing used for high detail, high performance prototyping.

The basic technology consists of a photo-sensitive resin (that the 3D print will be made out of) that is cured by an ultra violet laser, layer upon layer, until you have the full desired object. Depending on the geometry of the object being printed, the piece may or may not need supporting structure to be built in places where there are difficult overhangs and geometries. These supporting structures can then be removed during a post production process that involves a chemical bath for the resin.
